DEMODEX MITES AND THE POTENTIAL LIMITATIONS FACING PATIENTS POST TREATMENT OR SURGERY IF NOT ADDRESSED.

————–

What are Demodex (folliculorum) Mites? and are they good or bad?

I wish I had stressed this more often over the years with colleagues, peers and mentors alike on the importance of ensuring each patient is free of Demodex mite infestation on the scalp skin, in hair tissue and deep in oil glands pre and post treatment or surgery.

Surgery, Dermatology, Para medical practices, so many other crafts treating the skin, scalp & hair could advance if we are to identify a patient pre-treatment or surgery of the degree they are host to mites either on the scalp , facial skin or nestled in hair cuticles.

What damage can Demodex follicle mites do?

Demodex follicle mites live inside the sebaceous glands and hair follicles, sucking nutrients from the hair roots and damaging the cell walls. After mating they burrow into the skin, laying eggs, at times introducing bacteria causing infection to the skin. Throughout the five phases of their life cycle, these mites destroy the skin by excreting wastes and secretions, laying eggs and dying within its layers. After death, their corpses become liquid and decompose inside the skin.

One really amazing find to this journey is having failed treating patients homes effectively, i.e… their intimate belongings and surroundings to minimizing re-infestation. Their good families can also benefit. Early in development of our commercial hair loss control & recovery system launching next year, I missed this step totally. Hence the re-infestation numbers and cases early in treating patients a few years back. Which I can say for certain contributed to some regression and hair shedding on the maintenance program and patients had to return to clinical support treatments to boost the growth and volume back.

As of late I had a chat with our friends at UNGEX, Now we can get it right!…

Seyed brought something up I had not understood how to do it effectively enough, until yesterday. We can now say Demodex can be managed in the home and that the family is also Demodex free.

If the Demodex mites are not controlled by treating the towels, bedding, furniture then re-infestation of the patient is almost certain. Even in contact with others we know they can jump and re-infest.

So the first step to be taken is with our very own staff, equipment and the clinic.

If practice staff, equipment and the clinic are not examined and treated most likely we are in the cycle to. Skin, nail or hair clinics, salons and even surgical theaters are prone and should be examined and treated. We are all on the best path in assisting recovery this I believe is just one more step in reversing hair loss naturally pre-surgery and taking the work done in surgery just that much further for a patients recovery if you will.

Most clinics, skin or scalp clinic can rid a patient of mites in a few zaps with High Frequency, added serums and tonics but if the home or their office, whether visiting a country or to be simply putting your head on a airplane pillow or head rest of the bus to the airport means we are probably in contact with a good count of mites.

So how does UNGEX prove they manage that..?

Seyed (M Mallak) Behbahani-Managing Director at UNGEX Pty Ltd shared with us he clearly has the solution for a clinic like ours to assist in the patient controlling re-infestation of the Demodex Mites.

Seyed’s centre has launched the NEWEST BREAKTHROUGH TECHNOLOGY & SOLUTION that targets DEMODEX Mites . DEMODEX Treatments are tested and proven to be effective and it is a non-invasive cosmetics procedure. Demodex mites under the Newest Breakthrough Technology is hands down one of the most amazing things to incorporate into our protocol. As a researcher and clinician watching this from baseline to recovery for the patient and for our team from trench to bench is amazing.

A bit of what we discussed at the National Institute for Integrative Medicine is on to how the Demodex can produce the enzyme lipase which is necessary for Demodex to digest the sebum it feeds on. Lipase can adversely affect the quality, condition and appearance of your scalp and hair

If the mites go unobserved, the mite populations can dramatically increase, resulting hair thinning problems. Hair loss, in some cases, pre-mature hair loss can be linked with extended demodex folliculorum activity and much more.

I endorse UNGEX!

Check out these 10 easy tricks and tips for beauty!

Check out these simple and easy tricks and tips to get the most of out your beauty regimen!

  1. Freeze Your Eyeliner

Having trouble with crumbly or gooey eyeliner pencil? Why not try leaving it in the freezer for 15 minutes before applying your eye makeup. Doing this should help glide along your lash line effortlessly and cut down time for applying eye makeup. No more wasting precious mornings on corrections or causing over use of cotton tips!

  1. Why not shave using conditioner?

If you’re out of shaving cream – or even if you’re not, lather your legs, armpits, even the more sensitive areas with conditioner instead of soap! Conditioner softens the hair and soothes the skin making it way easier to shave. 🙂

Plus it leaves skin feeling smooth, just remember to wash it off in the shower and don’t apply to anywhere especially oily to avoid acne and irritated skin.

  1. Sick of losing eyelashes and putting up with sore eyelids?

Rub a little coconut oil on your eyelids and coat your eyelashes, this prevents bacteria and Demodex eyelash mites being able to spread infection and cause tenderness, plus your eyelashes will stay thick and beautiful!

  1. Don’t put up with our-of-place eyebrows

Spray a little hairspray on an old (freshly cleaned) mascara brush, eyebrow brush or old toothbrush, then lightly brush eyebrows and style them as you wish. Even the most unruly eyebrows should yield to this little trick 😉

  1. Out of makeup remover? Try coconut oil or baby wipes instead!

If you’re out of makeup remover, use organic coconut oil or baby wipes to get rid of makeup. It works especially well on dry, tough eye makeup.

  1. Don’t Pop It!

Don’t pop those pimples! Not only does popping pimples increase the chance of ugly scarring, you can also worsen the problem and spread bacteria/germs to other places on your face, which could cause an even worse breakout. Instead use a trusted brand that stops acne at the source. Our recommendation: UNGEX! Check out the products here, or buy now here

  1. Use your straightener to get wavy curls!

Straighteners are amazing tools, with multiple uses. Not only can you use it for its intended use – to straighten your hair, you can also create tight curls (if you’re using a thin straightener) or soft romantic waves with a normal sized one. It’s important to note that using a straightener too much can cause dryness and breakage! So take it easy once in a while and chill out with the natural look.

  1. Tips for easy tweezing.

Before you pluck your eyebrows, try to make sure you soften the skin by wetting a cotton ball in warm water, this will ensure less dryness and less of a pinch, even for thick follicles. When you start plucking, do so in the direction your hair grows, this will cause less trauma to the skin around it and result in less dryness and irritation.

  1. Using Dry Shampoo & the correct method for shampooing your hair!

Dry shampoo is great! It absorbs excess oil on the length of your hair and keeps your mane looking clean and fresh. However dry shampoo should only be used in between washes. For regular washes just wash the top of your head with regular shampoo followed by a quick towel dry. Your hair will look (and feel) as good as new.

  1. Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Make sure you clean your makeup brushes regularly to avoid a build-up of makeup residue and bacteria – it can even cause Staph (Staphylococcus), which can result in pus, such as a boil, furuncle, or abscess. You can buy makeup brush cleaner from any chemist or beauty shop, or you can simply use shampoo to clean your brushes as you would your own hair. Clean brushes guarantee a smooth and even makeup application every time.

Delicious foods and vitamins to help make your hair and skin healthier!

Delicious foods and vitamins to help make your hair and skin healthier!

We all know that much or our external beauty depends on our internal beauty, and not what you think. I’m talking about your health! If you have a healthy diet and lifestyle, your chances of having beautiful hair and skin in not only increased, it’s almost guaranteed.

Here are a few foods rich in much needed vitamins to help you have healthier hair and skin.

Iron

Obviously, Iron is an especially important mineral, especially for women, but did you know it’s important for your for hair and too?

Not enough iron can actually contribute to hair loss, and will worsen the problem if you’re already suffering from Demodex mite related hair loss.

There are ways to get your iron levels up, and one way is eating animal products such as red meat, chicken and fish with a high bio-availability, (meaning the iron is readily available to the body). Vegetarians can raise their iron levels by eating lentils, spinach and other leafy green vegetables such as broccoli, kale and salad greens, or if you simply don’t have the time for these the leafy greens or a lot of meat there’s always the option of Iron supplements – approx. 15- 30AUD at a chemist or health food store.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C aids the absorption of iron so foods high in vitamin C are good to eat in conjunction with iron-rich foods. Vitamin C is also an antioxidant so is used readily by the body. The best sources are blackcurrants, blueberries, broccoli, guava, kiwi fruits, oranges, papaya, strawberries and sweet potatoes. Vitamin C helps in the production of collagen that strengthens the capillaries in our skin.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is needed by the body to make sebum. Sebum is an oily substance created by our hairs sebaceous glands and provides a natural conditioner for a healthy scalp. Without sebum we may experience an itchy scalp and dry hair (which is what happens when Demodex mites feed off of it and cause hair loss and skin problems). Include animal products and orange/yellow coloured vegetables which turn into vitamin A, such as carrots, pumpkins and sweet potatoes.

Vitamin E

The sun (especially in hot places like Australia) can damage our hair just like it can damage our skin so ensure you eat foods rich in vitamin E to provide protection for your hair. Nuts are nutritional powerhouses, providing zinc as well as vitamin E so try to include them as part of a healthy diet.
